# Garbage Disposal Issues

If your garbage disposal isn't working properly, here are some troubleshooting steps to help you identify and resolve the issue:

1. **Check the Power Supply**:
   - Ensure the disposal is plugged in. If it’s not working at all, check the circuit breaker or reset button on the disposal.
2. **Listen for Sounds**:
   - If you hear a humming noise but the disposal isn’t grinding, it may be jammed. If there are no sounds, it might be a power issue.
3. **Reset the Disposal**:
   - Locate the reset button (usually on the bottom of the unit) and press it. This can help if the motor has tripped.
4. **Inspect for Jams**:
   - Turn off the disposal and unplug it. Use a flashlight to look inside for any obstructions (e.g., utensils, large food scraps).
5. **Use an Allen Wrench**:
   - Many disposals have a manual crank socket at the bottom. Insert an Allen wrench (often 1/4 inch) into this socket and turn it back and forth to free any jams.
